| Emily Jean Stone was born in Scottsdale, Arizona on November 6, 1988. Emma's paternal grandfather was of Swedish descent, and his family's surname was anglicized to "Stone". Emma began acting as a child as a member of the Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. She appeared in many more productions through her early teens until, at the age of 15, she decided that she wanted to make acting her career. She chose the name "Emma Stone" when she registered for the "Screen Actors Guild" as the name "Emily Stone" was already taken. Emma launched a career in television after winning the role of Laurie Partridge on In Search of the New Partridge Family (2004). Emma next had appearances in the television series Medium, Malcolm and Lucky Louie. Emma made her feature film debut in the 2007 teen comedy Superbad, playing Jules, the love interest of lead character Seth. In 2008, she appeared in the comedy The Rocker and in The House Bunny. In 2009 she starred in the horror/comedy Zombieland. Emma landed her first leading role in 2010, starring with Amanda Bynes as a high school student in Easy A. She starred as the female lead in The Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot of the Spider-Man film series. She played Gwen Stacy, the 17-year-old love interest of Peter Parker. She began dating actor Andrew Garfield after meeting him on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man. Although she's known as a redhead, her natural hair color is blonde. It was Judd Apatow who suggested she change her hair color for Superbad (2007) and she liked it so much that she decided to keep it. |
